Clean up... Aisle 4!!

So I was a bit remiss in not doing a review for a recent concert we attended, Bassekou Kouyate. Mr. Kaouyate played the Flynn Space a couple weeks ago w/ his band Ngoni Ba. They were a 6 piece ensemble from Africa playing various percussion as well as the Ngoni instrument. The Ngoni is considered by some to be a precursor to the modern day banjo and this group played a style of music akin to American blues. After getting major praise from the likes of Bela Fleck and Eric Clapton we were very keen to check the out. The intimate space was great for this group who was energetic and very engaging. They wove short stories into the music and really played a solid set. The one guy playing a hand drum was kicking his feet above his head and jumping around while the other band members picked away at the Ngoni and cruised around the stage like they were backing up James Brown! An added bonus was the preponderance of older white audience members dancing like they were at a wedding, that was fun. Plus, the space had a little bar so you could have a beer and watch a great show (and weird white people dancing). An extra bonus was that we got to sit right behind local celebrity, Tall Big Hair Guy from Toubab Krewe and guess whether the good looking girl with him was his girlfriend, sister, or other? Good times. If you get a chance to check this group out... do!

The downside of the evening was a meal at Vietnam Restaurant 2. Last time we eat there. Bad food, bad service, flat beer... heartburn. 2 thumbs down, especially since they charged us for the beer we did not drink.

We watched Boondock Saints last night. I know a lot of people like this movie... I am not one of them. It was ridiculous. Not the good kind of ridiculous either. The Wire on the other hand is really coming around. I am not a fanatic but certainly an interested party.

Red Sox.... ugh. Can't pitch, no relief, fielding is so so, hitting is so so, Ortiz can't catch up to a 78MPH fastball... might be a long year.

OK, guess that will do for now.
