So today is free cone day @Ben & Jerry's. Naturally there is a line out the door even though it is 50 degrees and raining outside. Hey, you know what I am in the mood for? Cold ice cream in the middle of the day, YYYYAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!

Why doesn't the local brewery Magic Hat have free beer day!?! I would wait in line for that kind of action!

Jay About... Spring Cleaning?!

Let's just say this weekend was not nearly as fun as last weekend... My lady spent most of the weekend doing school work and I spent time cleaning sludge out of the basement and a dead mouse out of the engine on my tractor mower. F*ing mouse... I knew he was in there and tried to shoo him out but he had to tempt fate!

2 highlights. We did have a fun dinner over @shakeyourbooty's house. Had a nice pork loin, some wine, toured the barn, had some laughs , and jumped on the trampoline. They may not like us, but we had a great time!

The second highlight was the dinner my wife made Sunday night. She had been marinating lemons in a salt brine for weeks and finally broke them out for a delicious Mediterranean chicken dish w/ olives, cous cous, and snap peas. The menu came from a braising cook book that has been fabulous. The chicken was flavorful and was very tender. The lemons were quite nice and we were able to use a few for a Margarita drink as well. My special lady puts the love in and you can tell, she is an excellent cook. Unfortunately for her, tonight I am on the clock which means leftovers and possible mac n' cheese!! and beer...

Jay About Town is Back in the Mix!

So this was a pretty damn good weekend @ the Bird household. It was mid to high seventies and sunny all weekend. We are lucky to get that kind of weather in July! So my special lady did a little school work on Saturday while I did a little work around the house, and then we went down to Sugarbush for the afternoon. It was so hot we rocked t-shirts and moved around a little slushy snow. After a few runs we met up w/ friends and sat back on the deck for a few beers in the sun. Pretty sweet.

Saturday night we attended a fund raiser downtown. The refurbished Hilton ballroom... they should have re-re-furbished. It was a dumpy space and the food sucked. Our friend summed it up best when she unabashedly piped up to a waiter, "That looks gross!". She wasn't joking, she wasn't smiling, but she was spot on!!! Costco mystery meat (turkey? ham? hamkey??) wrapped around limp asparagus IS gross!!!

Sunday we wrapped up the weekend w/ a little golf. Once again, my wife was doing some work (she has been working very hard lately), and myself... well, I played a round of golf! The old golf & ski weekend!! The Middlebury course was in surprisingly good shape. It really was not too wet and my only issue was w/ the aerated greens. I am quite sure they were to blame for my poor putting!!

After 15 holes I watched m'lady hit some golf balls at the range and then we headed to Vergennes for a little snack. Very strange town, there are a bunch of hip stores and restaurants but the place is always very quiet. On Sunday @6PM it was like a Western or bad horror movie. Almost everything was closed, there were no cars, no people and it was dead silent. Tumbleweeds... Anywho, we worked our way over to the Black Sheep Cafe (hadn't been there in awhile). Surprisingly enough we got a nice table on the terrace. Hostess pulled a typical move I always enjoy, you know, the one where there are like 15 open tables and they ask you if you have a reservation. Then, they look at their seating chart for 5 minute w/ a furrowed brow and finally sigh and say "I think we can find you a table". Really? You think you can pick one out of all of the empty tables and let us sit there? What if someone w/ a reservation shows up? Where will they sit?! They will only have 14 other open tables to choose from!!! And it is so busy in town, there might be a dinner rush!!!!!!! Anyway, the food is very rich at the Black Sheep and the portions are huge so we shared a salad and 2 apps. The salad was very fresh and they served it w/ a great balsamic vinaigrette. I love a lightly sweet very viscous vinegar. We also had lobster ravioli which was rich, but not fishy. It was quite good too. The piece de resistance? Pork dumplings!!! The pasta was delicate and melted in your mouth. The pork was flavorful and just a little greasy... the good kind of greasy. The dumplings were also dressed w/ a slightly sweet sauce that really tied the dish together, much like The Dude's rug. These things kicked ass!!! So there you have it, I always enjoy the Black Sheep.

Having eaten and not been killed by a cowpoke or slasher, we made our way home. Great weekend. The week so far on the other hand...

Spring in the Air?

It is 76 degrees and sunny up here in VT. Can you believe it? After 9 months of winter, the first week of spring is always a pleasant shock... kind of like peeing on and electric fence! So here is a happy post before I head out for a cold beer and a little outside time.

Friendly Skies

So I was reading a story this morning about the Pope getting ready to fly to D.C. this morning which got me thinking... what if the Pope was flying on U.S. Air?

Pope: What do you mean my flight is delayed 12 hours? I need to get to Washington!
U.S. Air Att.: Well, I am sorry sir but there are several people here all trying to get somewhere, please take a seat and we'll call you.
Pope: But I'm the Pope?
USA A: Well I can't help you there... please take a seat sir.
Pope: But I am going to see President Bush... please (looking at name tag) Janyse, isn't there anything you can do?
USA A: Well, I can get you to Newark tomorrow?
Pope: (look of consternation) Newark? Tomorrow?!
USA A: Maybe I can connect you in 2 hours through Dallas, with a stop in Chicago, and then on to Washington...
Pope: That's the best you can do?
USA A: Well, yeah, unless the weather is still bad in Chicago... then you might have to spend the night in Cleveland?
Pope: WHAT?!?!?
USA A: Wait, here is a direct to Portland and then on to Seattle... there you go!
Pope: Seattle? I am going to Washington D.C.?
USA A: Ohhhhhh... D.C., you should have said that...
Pope: I did say...
USA A: Don't get snippy with me sir! I am just trying to help! Now I can get you to New Brunswick on Friday, Business Class, will that work?
Pope: Can I fly through any other airline?
USA A: Maybe, you will have to go to terminal D for that kind of information though.
Pope: What terminal are we in now?!
USA A: A... you will need to pass through security and take a shuttle.
Pope: I am going to ex-communicate you! No, no, I am sorry, I should not have lost my temper. It's not your fault, I forgive you.
USA A: You better check your tone sir, I'll have security escort you right out of here!
Pope: (shaking head) Uh... thank you.

G.W.: (knocking down a couple whiskey sodas @ the airport bar) Now where the heck is that Pope... I knew I should have sent Dick Cheney for this... I'm missing Guiding Light!!!

***thank you, thank you. You will be able to see my next show straight from Hell!!!!!!

Just a couple of thoughts

I really enjoy the fact some ya-yo decided to bury a Red Sox jersey in the concrete @ the new Yankee Stadium. What makes it even better is that the fruit loops who work for the Yankees gut themselves into a tizzy and spent thousands to tear up the concrete and return the jersey. Now they want to sue the guy that buried it. Under what grounds do you suppose? That old infraction, cursing?!?!?! Great to have you driving the bus Hank Steinbrenner!!

How the f* do politics in Italy work. That Bertuccis ( oh, Berlusconi) guy becomes premier, then gets tossed out, and now is back. This all took like 2 years?! Stable... stable.

Why was it snowing in VT this weekend? F* you Al Gore.... F* you and f* global warming!!!

I really wish Hillary and Obama would shut up. I have seen 5 years olds carry themselves w/ more poise and dignity. Of course they are battling over a stick w/ doo doo on it!!!

Marilyn Monroe sex tape. Seriously. Is that hot? I say yes, no, maybe? There really is only one way to find out. Anybody want to go in on a $1.5M viewing?

This is what I am talking about... Somebody gets in your grill, or drives like a moron, or generally just ticks you off? You give 'em the hedgehog baby!!! I am heading out right now to stock up. You better believe that tomorrow on my way to work that guy in the Prius doing 35MPH in the passing lane listening to NPR and possibly talking on his cell phone is getting the hedgehog!!!

While we are on the topic of rodents who don't f* around... may I present, Dramatic Chipmunk!!!

Finally seeing some signs of Spring up here in the North Country. The snow is almost gone, the temps broke above 20 degrees, and we are seeing daffodils popping up. It is very refreshing after VT's 8 month winter. It's like I always say... when life tosses doo-doo at you, you make a doo-doo salad!!!!!!
