Jay About Town Back on the Scene

This week Jay was about town and found himself looking for a new lunch experience. On the recommendation of "the Biscuit" I tried out a new joint, tentatively called "The New York Deli" (formerly the Oasis Diner). To be fair, they are very much in a state of flux. Part of the diner is still sit down, part is take out. The menu is very small, in fact I think it only serves 3 types of sandwiches. That said, they look to be trying to corner a very specific sector of the market, that claim to fame is their ties to New York (I know, weird). They import corned beef, pastrami, and I think turkey as well as a selection of specialty sodas. Sides include a couple types of soup, coleslaw and/or potato salad. No Chips. What is nice is that you have 2 nutjob "New Yorkers" who slice the meat in front of you and heat up a delicious sandwich prepared just right, on rye w/ swiss or course. The meat is a little fatty but very tender and delicious. As an added bonus, while I was waiting for may sandwich a crazy local in knickers came in to give the place a look. He didn't order anything but he did talk smack to the guys behind the counter. "How will you keep up with demand if you are cutting the meat?". "You probably will get more customers when you put out a real sign". "Shouldn't you have more stuff on the menu?". "I don't like cream soda". "Will the trucking company that ran over your sign pay for it? Why not? They should.". Fun times... crazy short pants guy pushes the experience to 1 and 3/4 thumbs... for now.
