It's unsolicited commentary time
Dwyane Wade (how do you actually pronounce that?) just released a new home workout tape... I received an advance copy as you can see above. http://espn.go.com/nba/truehoop/miamiheat/story/_/id/9416620/dwyane-wade-miami-heat-releases-driven-fitness-home-app
Can we just kill that Snowden guy? He is obviously a traitor and an asshole. Maybe we can get Aaron Hernandez on that?
I really don't like the Red Sox pitching right now, particularly the bullpen. Shaky....
James Gandolfini's death got me thinking about the state of culture currently. Why are we lionizing douchebags? I liked the Sopranos. I like Mad Men. I enjoy Family Guy. I never got into Breaking Bad or Sons of Anarchy but they seem fine. The point is we really like the guy who is a giant asshole but knows he is an asshole and once in awhile tries to do the right thing but still does the wrong thing. If you try to make a show about a genuinely good person it seems corny. But why? Because those people don't exist? Isn't that the point of TV and movies, to create a fantasy? Maybe even a fantasy of a reality we should strive for? That certainly is not a jerk headcase murderer. That said, Gandolfini was great in that role and the show was very well done. See, I am such a hypocrite.
I am stoked about this non stop rain by the way.

Jay About Vin
I cruised over to this new bar Vin after work on Friday. It is 2 doors over from L'Amante who opened it up. The bar is pretty ambitiously set up as a bar, retail shop, learning center. When I went in there was nobody there. It was a sunny day so most people flock to Church St to sit outside but this was ominous. Still, I was happy to sit in the AC and enjoy some quiet. They could use a small TV as I would have liked to watch the U.S. Open (bartender agreed). I ordered a glass of Prosecco, some Spanish ham, and Manchego. They slice the meat right behind the bar and the presentation was complete with all the accouterments and was quite pleasing. Wine was ok. Ham and cheese were good and nice portions. It is expensive on the food front but pretty reasonably priced for the wine options. Service was solid and the bartender was very friendly. Overall it was fine. L'Amante took time to get a following but they are very popular and very good... this place may need the same time and patience. Or it could fold in a few months. Hard to tell in a town where Sputi's seems to get the most action on any given night? Anyway, I will go back... but I won't hurry back.

Jay About the Hindquarter
So the Hindquarter truck that usually parks by the Maltex building but today they were over by Maglianero so I was fired up (thanks JB for the tip)! I wandered over and made my move on a softshell crab BLT. A lot going on you say? You betcha! I stayed away from the fries and the whoopie pie because I am fat. I am sort of regretting that decision and sort of happy about it. So now I am "enjoying" an apple. Back to the sandwich. It was very ok. The crab was fried in cornmeal and had nice flavor and consistency. Wasn't too chewy as is sometimes the case. Unfortunately the bacon made up for it. A lot of gristle and was not great in terms of flavor either. The preserved lemon aoli was really quite nice, not too heavy but nice subtle lemon flavor. The star was the brioche bun which was delicious. Overall I liked it and would be willing to try the place again but for $11 I was not blown away. 1 thumb up.
That apple is delicious. Had a pizza from Bite Me yesterday and not sure if that or the beers I drank but I am running for mayor of poop town today. Maybe I need to tweet more? My co-worker and I had a beer at a local establishment yesterday and the smug factor was off the charts. They are in the middle of a major construction project so to be friendly I thanked the guy for my beer and asked how they were doing given the makeshift kitchen and bar. You expect excitement about the new space and something like... "we are doing really well!". Nope. "Fine". That's it? That is what I say to my mother when she calls and I don't want to chat. F*** you buddy! Your tip just went from $2 to a cameo on Jay About Town and one big f*** you! These service folks need to be more friendly. Like Me.

Look Out!
So that D-Bag who leaked CIA secrets about the NSA to the media is hiding out in Hong Kong. He did not think he could live in a place where there was so much invasion of privacy so he took off to... China?! Really, China to escape big brother? He thinks he is safe there? Obviously did not see that Batman movie...

I also think it is funny how Congress is so indignant about the wiretapping and other surveillance. It was your law you put in place after 911! Hey, Eric Cantor... it was your President you gave such oppressive powers too. These f*ing assholes don't even read their own bills. Don't get me wrong, this is a terrible power and clearly the terrorists won. We are too big and too high profile. It is very difficult to truly be free when you are the biggest country in the world. Our borders are just too big to secure from terrorists. I am not sure the answer. I don't like the question at all. I think I would like less surveillance.
Love to report more interesting stuff but we had a boring weekend which was fine w/ me.

Jay About the Police Blotter!
http://www.wcax.com/story/22492018/police-man-uses-his-car-to-scare-two-women
Yup, it is getting dicey out here in Char-latte these days. People getting aggressive w/ Priuses. That is when you know things are going in the shitter. Pretty soon we will need Snake Plissken to get out of here! Went to the brick store the other day and got a Chester's ice cream sandwich, it was delicious. Such weird people in there, or maybe I am the weird one. They always want to get too deep in the weeds and tell everyone their life story. I don't need the high school girl making sandwiches my kids' sleeping schedule. I do need her to stop f*ing up my sandwich! I guess I am the dick. Sorry, getting off topic.
When I was a young single guy I never imagined the joy of waking up to a whining cat smashing his head against a baby gate, while you slowly freeze in a 3" corner of bed next to two grunting wiggling little people who have kept you up most of the night sort of fussing. It is refreshing in a way you never could imagine! Shhh, don't tell the uninitiated, I don't want to spoil the surprise! I nearly dumped a full coffee on the floor of the gas station, then in the cream station, then in my lap as I struggled to get in my car as if I had never negotiated such a delicate situation before. Maybe it is not the lack of sleep rather the pulled pork I had yesterday leaching into my brain? Will have to monitor.
